When Fabian Cancellara and the Schleck brothers announced their departure, many feared for the future of the Saxo Bank team. Manager Bjarne Riis saved his team however with a stroke of genius.

Alberto Contador, who kept Andy Schleck from Tour de France victory in the last two seasons, is supposed to be the new leader of Saxo Bank-Sungard. The Spanish legend, coming from Astana, do has to hope however for a good ending of the doping affair in which he is involved.

Riis's team, in 2010 very successful thanks to Fabian Cancellara, has undergone a transformation. Cancellara and the Schleck brothers took Jens Voigt, Stuart O'Grady and Jakob Fuglslang with them to their new team in Luxemburg. Matti Breschel moved to Rabobank, Nick Nuyens went the other way around and will be the main rider in the classic races next season.
